29 tonnes of refuse tea busted by the STF
The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested 7 suspects attempting to sell 29,000 kg of refuse tea to Middle Eastern countries. The seized refuse tea was found in a warehouse in Kotugoda, Seeduwa.
Officials of the Sri Lanka Tea Board visited the scene today (19) and will be producing a report on the quality of the tea.
The arrestees will be produced before the Negombo Magistrate tomorrow (20). Further investigations are being carried out by the STF and the Seeduwa Police.
