Two suspects are to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, related to a case of attempting to sell wet medical masks, said the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. R.L. De S. Wijayamuni.

When contacted, he said, a total of 3,128 non-reusable and wet medical masks and KN 95 masks were found at a building in Colombo Fort.  He said the raid was carried out by the Colombo Central Medical Officer of Health, following a complaint received from a person near the said building. 

He said, these masks were found in a wet condition and that the suspects had left it to dry when the Police inspected the relevant building premises. During the investigation, the owners of the building said that the stock of masks, was wet due to the rain and that they were drying it and after investigations the Police sealed them and arrested the owners, he added.

The suspects and masks are to be produced before the Court and further legal action will be taken on the suspects, said Dr. Wijayamuni.
