Army gets new chief-of-staff
Major General Vikum Liyanage has been appointed as the 59th chief-of-staff of the Army effective from today (07).
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed him on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defence and the Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva.
Maj. Gen. Liyanage is from the Gajaba Regiment and prior to the new appointment, served as the Commandant of the Army Volunteer Force.
He succeeds Major General Priyantha Perera, who retired from service.
