Army Chief monitors vaccination drive in Colombo

General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff, and Commander of the Army, monitored the progress of the vaccination drive in Colombo and visited the Army Seva Vanitha Unitmanaged vaccination centre at the MOH office in Pitakotte last Wednesday morning (12).

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit, chaired by Sujeewa Nelson, which was also instrumental in supporting the operational aspect of the Army-improvised new Intermediate Care Centre in Seeduwa, volunteered to run this vaccination centre in Moratuwa with Army medical staff, considering it as a national obligation. Several other Army-managed vaccination centres are operational in Colombo. 

Accompanied by a few Senior Officers, he visited several other vaccination centres and shared a few words with health staff and service personnel working there. He also spoke to some civilians awaiting inoculation and inquired about health guidelines and precautions taken by them
