Tech Talk Apple Unveils 4 New 5G iPhones for 2020

By Banu Athuraliya

For the first time in history, this year Apple unveiled four new iPhones at a special event titled ‘Hi, Speed’ that was streamed online for millions to watch. We get two things this time from Apple more than any other time before and that is consistency and options. Consistency because some of the key features are the same across the board on these devices and options because we get, well four options and in multiple colours too!

The design is the most important reason; a lot of people will consider switching to the new iPhone 12. It takes you back to the past design of the iPhone 4/4S/5 and 5S days. With chamfered edges and squarish sides, the phones look premium. You would want to carry it without a case for sure, even though you probably shouldn't! That's not it; Apple is also introducing something called the Mag Safe charger this time with the iPhone 12 series which you have to buy as an extra accessory if you wish which enables MagSafe charging.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini are compact and are priced with the average consumer in mind whereas the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max are targeted at the Pro level customer looking to make the most out of their iPhones.

In summary, this is what we get with each new iPhone this year.

Which one should you buy though? Let me make it simpler for you by talking about each device separately.

iPhone 12 Mini

This is the smallest iPhone which is perfect for lovers of small phones. Even though it is small in size, there are no compromises when it comes to speed, performance, display, and main cameras too. You get one less camera at the back than the pro and a few other bottlenecks but at $699,

I think this is a good choice. Don’t forget you have five colours to pick from too.

iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is the bigger brother of the 12 mini, so it packs the same specs mostly but the screen size is obviously bigger. What’s interesting this year is that the iPhone 12 is a big step up from last year’s iPhone 11 or previous years iPhone XR, mainly due to the upgraded display. This might be a perfect upgrade if you’re looking for an iPhone at this price point. Prices start from $799 and you have five colours to pick from and I have a feeling this is the iPhone a lot of people will buy this year.

iPhone 12 Pro

The iPhone 12 Pro is for you if you’re looking for a phone packed with all the power and performance of the iPhone 12 but with more. This has 2 extra cameras than the iPhone 12 and also more storage and a classier build with stainless steel and the new blue and gold colours. It really looks awesome. Prices start from $999 and you have four colours to pick from.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the best iPhone for you if you’re looking for a big-screen phone with a big battery and also the best cameras of any iPhone this year. Unlike last year the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max doesn’t have the same cameras at the back. The 12 Pro Max has a better camera that will perform especially better in low light. If you don’t mind a big phone, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the right one for you. Prices start from $1099 and you have four colours to pick from.

This actually might be the hardest year to pick an iPhone model because we have a lot of features and options to pick from at different price points as well so people can decide what they want, and that’s a good thing. Even storage got a bump up to 128GB on the Pro iPhones so you might not have to upgrade to the 256GB model.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are available now to buy but the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available starting from mid-November.

If you’re wondering my personal favorite is the iPhone 12 Pro Max (in Gold and Blue) and that’s what I will be picking up soon to bring you guys my coverage over on www.youtube.com/androdollar.

Stay tuned to Andro Dollar to see the new iPhones in action.
