Another State Minister tests COVID-19 positive

State Minister Piyal Nishantha de Silva has become the latest Parliamentarian to be tested positive for COVID-19, after MPs Dayasiri Jayasekara, Rauff Hakeem and Vasudeva Nanayakkara. His wife and children have also tested positive to the virus.
The State Minister had attended Parliamentary Sittings in the first week of January. Several members of his staff have been instructed to be under self-quarantine.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and his entire family have been instructed to go under self-quarantine as he has been identified as a primary contact of State Minister de Silva.
Approximately, 14 Parliament employees including members of the security forces deployed on the Parliament premises have tested COVID-19 positive.
PCR tests were conducted in Parliament for the third time yesterday (18) and two MPs and 62 staff members were subjected to the tests. Earlier, PCR tests were conducted on 31 MPs and 911 staff members on 13 and 15 January. None of the MPs tested positive in the two tests.
