Another domestic aide abused at Bathiudeen's residence
Investigation teams recorded statements from two more persons in connection to the death of the 16-year-old domestic aide employed by Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) MP Rishad Bathiudeen.
Accordingly, a 29-year-old who had served as a domestic aide at the SJB MP's residence from 2009 - 2010 had revealed that she too, had been sexually harassed by the former Minister's brother-in-law.
Bathiudeen's 44-year-old brother-in-law was arrested on 23 July, on charges of sexually abusing a 22-year-old girl (then a minor) who previously worked as a domestic aide at the same residence between 2015 to 2019.
The 29-year-old woman was produced before the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), whilst the brother-in-law of the former Minister has been named as a suspect of this case as well.
Investigations have revealed that a total of 11 women, also residents of Dayagama, have served as domestic aides at the MP's residence since 2010, and had worked alongside the 16-year-old victim.
All 11 persons were brought from Dayagama by the same broker who had brought the deceased, Police Media Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana noted, adding that Police have obtained statements from eight persons, as three, including the 16-year-old victim, have passed.
