Coimbature Police confirm 'Angoda Lokka's' death; three suspects arrested
Underworld kingpin Maddumage Chandana Lasantha Perera, alias 'Angoda Lokka' was confirmed dead by the Coimbature Police on Sunday (02), as reported in the Indian media.
The Coimbature Police also confirmed that the criminal had been hiding in the city for at least two years, according to The New Indian Express.
Three individuals, including one Sri Lankan woman, were arrested in Coimbature on charges of forging identity papers for the drug baron and cremating him in Madurai after his death on 03 July.
Coimbature Police stated he had been admitted to Coimbature Medical College Hospital on 03 July, accompanied by two women who claimed to be his relatives, and submitted fake documents that claimed he was 'R. Pradeep Singh'.
Subsequent to his death, these suspects had taken his body for cremation at Madurai the next day.
The arrested persons were identified as Sivakami Sundari (36) from the Madurai District, her associate from Erode, S. Thiyaneshwaran, who had helped get the forged documents, and Amani Thanji (27), from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan woman is said to have lived with Angoda Lokka in Coimbatore.
Sri Lankan Police believed that Angoda Lokka's rivals had planned to assassinate him using a woman who lived with him in India, and that she had poisoned him.
The Coimbature Police are awaiting samples obtained from the autopsy of Angoda Lokka to confirm whether he died of natural causes or was murdered.
