Following the closure of the Addalaichenai National College of Education (ANCE) and the Government Teachers’ Training College (GTTC) in the Ampara District, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, these Colleges have been converted to a Quarantine Centre and a Medical Officers Treatment (MOT) Centre respectively, by Army and medical personnel.

All arrangements are now underway with cleaning and purifying the areas with antiseptics and sanitisers after the Army took over both these Colleges on 12 October after all teacher trainees and students had been sent home.

It is said that the female hostel of the College of Education, which consists of 250 beds, would be converted into the main Quarantine Centre.

Army higher ups, in consultations with the Divisional Secretary, the Medical Officer of Health of the area and the managements of Addalaichenai National College of Education, and the Government Teachers Training College, are in frequent discussions to provide all necessary equipment and other facilities.
