All Round Performance Helps Lankan CC Claim Title
Kasun Abeyrathne’s brilliant half century, and Dunith Wellalage’s 3 scalps help Lankan CC to get the better of in-form SSC by 59 runs to clinch the SLC’s Major Club Youth U-23 title at the SSC yesterday.
Lankan CC were put in to bat first and scored a defendable 223 runs before they were bowled out in 49.2 over. Kasun Abeyrathne scored a match winning knock of 51 runs off 66 balls including 4 boundaries and 1 six. Kasun along with Kevin Perera put on a 76 runs partnership for the 4th wicket to steady the ship. Kevin Perera also contributed with a fighting 40 runs off 39 balls with a boundary and a six, before Shammu Ashan and Dilum Sudeera went through the Lankan CC batting order claiming 3 wickets each.
In reply SSC lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 164 runs in 44.3 Overs. Shammu Ashan was the only batsman among the runs for SSC where he notched up a brilliant 50 runs in 65 balls including 6 boundaries. With wickets falling regularly from one end, Shammu was SSC’s lone warrior to give the camp a glimpse of hope. Shammu along with Chamindu Wickramasinghe were involved in a 55 runs partnership for the 7th wicket, which was not enough to take their team over the line.
In bowling, Dunith Wellalage was the hero claiming 3 wickets for 29 runs, while Yasiru Rodrigo and Sandun Sathsara also picked up 2 wickets each to help Lankan CC to emerge victorious.
