Ali Sabry demands Rs 10 M from Lanerole

Minister of Justice M.U.M. Ali Sabry, PC, has sent a Letter of Demand to Ananda Lanerole, a resident of Baddegama, demanding a sum of Rs 10 million, within a period of two weeks, for the loss of reputation and image caused to him through the actions of the latter. In his Letter of Demand, the Minister has stated that Lanerole, by staging a media conference had alleged that the former had exerted pressure in writing to the Balapitiya High Court Judge to grant certain relief to a group of accused persons in an ongoing trial being heard in the said Court. Sabry, sending his Letter of Demand through his Attorney Sanath Wijeyawardene, has warned that if Lanerole fails to pay him the sum sought by him within the given time, he would be instituting legal action. The Minister has charged that Lanerole, having conducted a media conference, had alleged that the former had intervened in a case presently being heard before the Balapitiya High Court concerning over a house, situated at Pitigala area, being attacked during the General Election five years ago.
