Ajith Mannapperuma to replace Ranjan in Parliament?
Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced for four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court today (12).
According to the law, any Parliamentarian who is imprisoned for more than six months loses their Parliamentary seat.
Therefore, if MP Ramanayake loses his civic rights with the conviction, the next SJB member with the highest amount of preferential votes in the list will be appointed to the seat that is vacated.
The person next on the list with the most amount of preferential votes is former State Minister Ajith Mannapperuma.
Sources confirmed that the Parliament is currently in discussion with the relevant authorities about the decision to be taken in this regard.
