Air Force swimming champ promoted
Sri Lanka Air Force Swimmer, Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara, who set a new Asian record by swimming across the Palk Strait, received a promotion to the rank of Corporal by Air Force Commander Sudarshana Pathirana.
He swam 59 kilometres and 300 metres across the Palk Strait in 28 hours 19 min 43 seconds on 11 April setting a new record.
Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara entered the Record Book renewing V.S. Kumar Anandan’s 50-year-old record which was set in 1971 by swimming the Palk Strait in 51 hours.
Roshan swam from Mannar to Danushkodi, Rameshwaran in India and back, covering a distance of 59.3 Kms.
