Agarwal ruled out of opening Test
Mayank Agarwal has been ruled out of the opening Test against England after getting hit on the helmet during a training session. The opener showed signs of concussion after being assessed by the BCCI medical team. “The 30-year-old is stable and will remain under close medical observation,” stated a BCCI release on Monday (2 August).
India are already grappling with a series of injuries after the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in June. Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan have been ruled out of the series with Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav added as replacements. The pair, however, will have to quarantine for 10 days and will be available from the third Test.
With Mayank now out, India have the option of partnering Rohit Sharma with Abhimanyu Easwaran or KL Rahul, the other openers in the side. The think-tank may also look at pushing Hanuma Vihari to the opening slot, as they did in Australia.
