AG unable to conclude Easter Attack proceedings
The Attorney General, in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, has raised concerns regarding evidence against 42 suspects of the Easter Sunday attacks, and probes into five other suspects.
Attorney General Dappula De Livera pointed out that investigations into the suspects Mohammad Azim, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wakari Younis, Mohammad Fazan, Saul Hameed and Haseem Mohammad remained incomplete.
State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne further explained that the Attorney General had sought confirmation of evidence against 42 suspects, and had also sought clarification regarding pending investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks, within this letter.
De Livera had raised concerns regarding this matter on Wednesday (12), in the form of a 130 page document, noting that due to the incompletion of investigations he is unable to initiate proceedings to file indictments against all those involved in the Easter Attacks of 2019, prior to his retirement. , State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne stated today (15).
