AG informs SC: Govt to make amendments to Finance Bill

Further amendments will be introduced shortly to the Government’s proposed Finance Bill, Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam informed the Supreme Court yesterday. Senior State Counsel Nirmalan Wigneswaran, appearing on behalf of the AG, informed the matter to the Court when four petitions challenging the Bill were heard.
The relevant petitions were taken up before the SC Justices Priyantha Jayawardena, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe, and Shiran Gunaratne. The Senior State Counsel informed the Court that it has been decided to amend seven sections of the relevant Bill and submit them in detail to the Court.
Several parties, including the JVP, SJB, a former Vice Chairman of the BOC Employees Union, Attorney Nagananda Kodithuwakku, on behalf of the Transparent Front and the UNP had filed petitions challenging the Government’s Finance Amendment Bill.
