Mullaitivu District Secretary K. Vimalanathan, said there is a need for fertiliser for 5,000 acres of agricultural lands in the district for Yala Season. The District Secretary went on to say that it is necessary to provide fertiliser for the farmers who have been engaging in paddy cultivation for the Yala Season in the Mullaitivu District without interruption.

“Despite fertiliser being distributed to them through 10 Agrarian Service Centres, the required amount of fertiliser has not reached the district so far,” he said. Vimalanathan said they were facing difficulties in distributing fertiliser to the farmers. The District Secretary, who said he has learnt that there is a shortage of urea fertiliser in Colombo, added that more fertiliser was required for the farmers who come under the Kumulamunai Agrarian Service Centre.
