The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) yesterday (8) said that it didn’t request Muslims to refrain from dealings with a certain private bank in the Colombo Metropolitan Area.

There is no factual basis in the news that is in circulation to this effect on social media, a topmost officer attached to the ACJU said.

He said that a Muslim woman who was entering a private bank in Dehiwala with a burqa had been asked to remove it by the security officer to prove her identity on security grounds and the woman had not removed it.

It is appropriate that such incidents be resolved amicably between the relevant parties, he said.

He said that following this incident, it has been reported that false allegations are being propagated that the ACJU has requested Muslims to cancel the accounts that are maintained with the bank.

He said that the ACJU categorically rejects these false, baseless allegations and wishes to state with responsibility that the ACJU has never issued such statements.
