According to SLAAS Act: State bodies to remain under ASC – Dr. Kariyawasam
According to the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards (SLAAS) Act, all State bodies, which the Opposition alleges will not be included in the Constitution after the 20th Amendment, will remain under the Audit Service Commission (ASC), stated Chartered Accountant Dr. Udayasri Kariyawasam.
He further claimed that the Commission under the United National Front-led regime was not as independent as the Opposition claims.
“The Commission is something that was appointed for administrative reasons. Some individuals in the Auditor General’s Department speak as if they are not aware of this fact.
Some individuals have alleged that the audits of particular institutions would be taken away from the Auditor General under the Companies Act in order to get the private auditors to audit them, but even before the 19th and 18th Amendments, there were some State institutions which were audited under private auditors,” he claimed.
Dr. Kariyawasam expressed these views, on 19 October, while addressing a Media briefing at the Viyathmaga headquarters.
