50 gold-plated Tripitaka Books, antique box go missing

The Chief Incumbent of the Randombe Sangharaja Maha Vihara in Ambalangoda, Galle has lodged a complaint with the Ambalangoda Police that 50 Burmese gold-plated Tripitaka books, along with the antique box in which the books were stored, have gone missing on 8 October.
According to the Thera, the Books were over 200 years old while the box was over 150 years old. The Thera said an organised group could be behind the disappearance of the Books and its antique box.
According to the Thera, eight monks reside at the temple. They had gone to Anuradhapura on 4 October and on their return to the temple three days later, they had found the books had gone missing
