5,000 houses for middle income earners

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has given instructions to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to conclude the construction of 3,000 houses, which are being built for middle income earners, within 12 months.
This entire project has been initiated as part of the election manifesto put forth by the President in the run up to the 2019 Presidential Poll and overall 5,000 such houses are due to be constructed throughout the country.
According to UDA sources, the PM has ordered them to complete the construction of 3,000 houses by January next year. The construction work of the remaining 2,000 houses is set to get underway in March this year. These houses are to be built in the Districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy and Anuradhapura as a solution to the housing issues faced by middle income earners.
