400,000 tins of salmon for CWEs monthly – Devananda

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday (27) said tinned fish manufacturers have agreed to supply 400,000 tins of salmon for Cooperative Wholesale Establishments (CWE) every month at the wholesale price of Rs 285. Minister Devananda added that the tinned fish manufacturers have agreed to supply the said amount of salmon tins to CWE following a recent discussion held with the ministry online. The discussion was convened by Devananda to take necessary steps to reduce the current shortage prevailing for tinned fish in the local market.
During the discussion, the tinned fish manufacturers raised several issues they face in running their industry. The Minister promised to resolve their issues. The tinned fish manufacturers promised Minister Devananda that they would extend maximum support to the Government to reduce the shortage prevailing for tinned fish in the local market. The manufacturing of tinned fish at factories has come to a standstill owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, manufacturers have promised to supply 400,000 tins of salmon to CWE every month, according to Minister Devananda.
