18 TN fishermen held in SL return home
Eighteen in a group of 23 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, detained by the Sri Lanka Navy for more than a month, were sent home yesterday (27).
The fishermen, residents of the Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, were arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy on 13 October for allegedly venturing into Sri Lankan waters.
Kept under judicial custody in Jaffna, they were released on 15 November.
Upon completion of the judicial formalities, 18 of the arrested fishermen were repatriated, and they reached Chennai by flight.
The five others had reportedly contracted COVID-19 and are expected to be repatriated after their quarantine ends.
