150 experienced teachers to be drafted to NIE
BY THAMEENAH RAZEEK
The Cabinet approved the Minister of Education's request to absorb 150 experienced teachers to the National Institute of Education (NIE). These teachers work as academics in State schools and the reason behind this move is because NIE is currently shortstaffed to perform needed functions.
The NIE is trying to implement educational reforms to provide the country with skilled citizens capable of successfully addressing challenges of the 21st century. Syllabuses and teaching practices are expected to change dramatically as a result of these revisions. The proposed revisions will be implemented in 2023 for grades 1, 2, 6, 8, and 10, and in 2024 for grades 3, 4, 5, 7, and 11.
