14 casualties within 24-hours due to road accidents
Road accidents have caused 14 deaths within the past 24 hours, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana says.
He further said that 12 road accidents were reported on the Southern Expressway, and had resulted in one person being injured.
The total number of road accidents reported yesterday (14) has accumulated to 121, with 74 being injured.
The Police Spokesperson emphasised that the majority of the vehicles involved in such accidents have been identified to be motorcycles.
DIG Ajith Rohana also said that the situation is likely to worsen today (15).
Meanwhile, 758 drunk drivers have been arrested as a result of the operation launched by the Police to nab drunk drivers.
