Also, the Investigating Officers of CIABOC, on 2 March, arrested a Member of the Nikaweratiya Pradeshiya Sabha for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 425,000 at a private restaurant in the Nikaweratiya- Puttalam Road. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a Nikaweratiya resident.
The suspect had solicited and received the bribe to do the needful on behalf of the complainant to transport soil without any hindrance. The CIABOC stated the raids would be further expanded to create a country free of bribery or corruption.
