Minister of Irrigation Chamal Rajapaksa yesterday (6) said in Parliament that about 10,000 houses island-wide in high-risk areas will be removed.
Speaking further, Rajapaksa said the National Building Research Organisation has already identified 10,000 houses in high-risk areas.
“These houses should be removed and those who live in them should be relocated. To implement this, lands are needed to be taken over. Lands would be taken from areas such as Ratnapura for this purpose. The Government is also exploring the possibility of providing funding for the land acquisition. People should be given money to build new homes as well.” he added.
