Aranthalawa massacre remembered
It has been 33 years since the LTTE brutally killed 31 Buddhist monks at Aranthalawa.
The incident took place on June 2, 1987, in Arantalawa, Ampara.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has issued a statement regarding the incident as well.
The Prime Minister points out that this was the worst massacre of Buddhist monks done within the history of Sri Lanka.
However, the Prime Minister pointed out that the President has set up a Presidential Task Force to protect the Buddhist heritage of the Eastern Province and to eradicate the prejudices of the past to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
