X-Press Pearl disaster: Damage assessment report to PM on 30 November

Arrangements will be made to hand over to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, on 30 November, the initial environmental damage assessment report on the X-Press Pearl fire, which occurred in close proximity to the Colombo Port, Chairperson of the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), Attorneyat-Law Dharshani Lahandapura said.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had informed the Marine Environment Protection Authority to prepare a report to assess the damage caused to the environment, including costs of recovery. Accordingly, the relevant assessment is being conducted by a group comprising of members of 11 sub-committees under the chairmanship of two veteran professors.
