Persistent rain brought an early close to the second day of the second and final Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies in Galle.

But, in the little play that was possible, WI took big strides towards squaring the series.

The morning session brought nine Sri Lankan wickets for the addition of just 91 runs.

WI then came up with a solid batting display after lunch, reducing the gap to 135 runs for the loss of only one wicket.

Scores: Sri Lanka 1st innings 204 (Pathum Nissanka 73, Dimuth Karunaratne 42, Angelo Mathews 29, Veerasammy Perumal 5-35, Jomel Warrican 4-50)

West Indies 1st innings 69/1 (Jermaine Blackwood 44)
