SL cannot handle a sudden COVID spike – experts

Medical experts have warned due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the country, it will be impossible to contain a sudden spike in the number of infections and deaths due to the pandemic.
Dr. Prasad Colombage told Ceylon Today currently there is a strong tendency for the number of deaths to increase at an alarming level and warned it could increase up to 4,000 or 4,500 deaths per month before long.
Under this situation Dr. Colombage warned that the daily death toll could range from 100 to 150.
He said they had also received information that there are also strong congestions in COVID-19 treatment centres due to a sudden upsurge in cases. Hence the GMOA stated the total number of those who could perish from this fatal disease could even outnumber those that had lost their lives in the war.
