NMRA data loss: Asst. Engineer further remanded
The Colombo Magistrate's Court today (18) further remanded the assistant engineer of a leading private software company, who is accused over the recent loss of data uploaded via the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) portal.
The suspect was further remanded till 25 October, on the orders of Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala.
The Chief Executive Officer of the private software company was also arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) last, in connection with the case.
In July this year, 1.1 million data files from the database of the NMRA had been deleted, following which a probe was launched by the CID.
At the time, NMRA sources revealed that as they do not possess a backup database to fall back on, the disappearance of the data files could point to an inside job, adding that the database was maintained by a private firm since 2018.
The lost data, however, was restored in September.
