IPU commends Bathiudeen's release on bail
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has welcomed the release of MP Rishad Bathiudeen on bail.
"The #IPU is pleased that parliamentarian @rbathiudeen was finally released on bail following his arrest under the Prevention of #Terrorism Act. The IPU will closely monitor his trial.", the IPU said on their official Twitter.
The former Minister and his brother Riyaj Bathiudeen were arrested on 24 April on charges of aiding and abetting the suspects of the Easter Sunday terror attack.
Subsequently, the CID obtained an order for the detention and interrogation of Bathiudeen and his brother.
The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader was detained for 177 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), until he was released on bail on 14 October.
Bathiudeen was also named the fifth suspect in the case concerning the death of his 16-year-old domestic maid case on 23 August, on orders of Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya.
He was later released on two surety bails of Rs. 1 million each.
