India arrests 10 Lankans for gold smuggling
India’s customs department has arrested two Sri Lankan men and eight women at the Bengaluru airport in Karnataka state for gold smuggling.
Acting on a tip-off, customs officials made the arrests on the night of 20 November.
They were among 140 other passengers who had arrived on board a SriLankan Airlines flight from Katunayake.
They had concealed the liquid gold, weighing more than three kg and worth 10 million Indian Rupees, in their rectums .
The contraband was due to be transferred to their handlers in Bengalaru.
Investigations are under way to identify the handlers.
