A vehicle rally in protest of the step motherly treatment being given to by the Health Ministry to non-medical health professionals in the State health service will be held today (30) at 10 am in Colombo, Joint Convener of the Federation of Health Professionals (FHP) Saman Ratnapriya said.
He accused the Health Minister, and his officials of giving preferential treatment to certain non-medical health professions in the State health services and to their demands.
The FHP has staged a spate of protests and ‘strikes’ for the past number of days demanding the Minister, the Health Secretary and officials implement the Ranugge Salary Commission Report. It had already been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in the former Government. Also, they have been agitating for a decrease in the number of years nurses, professions supplementary to medicine (PSM) and paramedics have to spend before receiving class one and class two promotions.
Although the Cabinet had approved the move the Health Secretary has not issued the circular in this regard. Amongst the six demands the FHP have also asked the Ministry to rehaul its administration and replace the current medical administration with a Health Service Administration where all health sector professions could be ‘certain of a more just treatment.’
