ID Dept activities halted

It was announced yesterday (2) that all activities of the Department for the Registration of Persons have been halted, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

In a statement, the Department stated that this decision was taken following recommendations by the Director General of Health Services.

The statement further noted that the release of National Identity Cards (NIC) would to go ahead without obstruction and steps are being taken to accept applications through Department offices and relevant Divisional Secretariats.

Applicants who were given a date to collect their NICs were told not to worry as the Department is taking steps to deliver the NICs to the applicants via post once the NICs are prepared.

The Department requested those who urgently require marriage certificates, passports, NICs and other essential documents to contact any of the following telephone numbers:
