Teaching Hospital (TH) Anuradhapura received a High Power Laser Platform (HPLP) to treat patients suffering from kidney stones. An official for the State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals said that Urologist at TH Anuradhapura, Dr. Nishantha Liyanapathirana had requested for a HPLP to help treat a large number of patients, mainly from the farming community, suffering from kidney stones.
He noted that State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals, Prof. Channa Jayasumana handed over the HPLP treatment system to the Hospital. He noted that a majority of them were from amongst the farming community.
Patients from Jaffna and Vavuniya also come to TH Anuradhapura to treat kidney stones. The equipment will help these patients get the necessary care without being on the waiting list, the official said. The HPLP can be used to treat a number of illnesses in addition to crushing urinary stones. He said that this is the first time a State hospital had received such a high powered machine. (DJ)
