Handunnetti stated the Agreement was not carried out in a transparent manner adding that this would put at risk the national energy sector and in turn the security in the country as national energy was a part of national security.
Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala stated that the Agreement was entered into without the knowledge of the Cabinet of Ministers adding that as the Agreement was signed without adhering to necessary procedure and thus it was illegal. He added that a case will be filed before the Supreme Court on 29 Friday by Trade Unions while stating that if the desired results were not achieved through Courts, other steps will be taken against this Agreement.
A total of 43 respondents including the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the Cabinet, the Public Utilities Commission, its chairman and members, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the US-based New Fortress Energy and the Monetary Board of the Central Bank have been named in the petition.
