Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the Government is trying to pass laws that will cripple free education in the country. “SJB will not directly or indirectly support any provision or programme that would deal a fatal blow on free education and would unconditionally oppose such provisions and such programmes.
Through the Universities Act 1978 no 16, the Government is trying to pass laws that will cripple the free education system of the country. Therefore, the SJB has decided to defeat the KNDU Bill,” he added.
He also said the General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University should function as it used to; there is no need to change the method, he said. Premadasa also discussed the proposed Tripitaka Conservation Bill and the KNDU Bill at length during the discussion with University lecturers at the Opposition Leader’s Office on 26 July.
