Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala, yesterday released from a bribery and corruption case the former Directress of the National Blood Bank (NBB) Ranjani Bindusara and Dr. H. Champika Prabodani on the condition that the case could be re-filed against the duo. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery Or Corruption (CIABOC) had charged Bindusara and Prabodani with causing a loss of revenue to the State through the purchase of expired blood plasma from 10 April to 9 July, 13 years ago.
Magistrate Ragala, having perused the initial objections raised by the defence lawyers against the charges released the duo from the case on the proviso that the prosecution can re-file the case.
The Bribery Commission filing the charges in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on 31 March, six years ago, has further stated that the two suspects had violated provisions contained in Section 70 of the Bribery Act.
