First part of road completed
The first part of the road to Adigama via Madurankuliya - Mahakumbukkadawala has been completed, and work on the second phase is progressing. According to a request made by the people of Puttalam during President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s visit to the Puttalam District, the 9.7 km stretch of road to Adigama via Madurankuliya - Mahakumbukkadawala on the ColomboPuttalam main road has been completed in the first phase, and steps have been taken to complete the development of another 11.5 km in the second phase, said State Minister of Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure, Nimal Lanza.
He said the first phase of construction cost a total of Rs 222 million and the second phase’s construction has been budgeted at Rs 250 million, adding that engineers are optimistic that the second phase of development will be completed in the coming months. Speaking further, Lanza also said the road will connect two national highway system A and B grade roads and as a result, the Colombo-Puttalam and Chilaw-Anamaduwa roads will be linked to this.
“The construction of this road will make it easier to carry agricultural goods to economic hubs, as well as to facilitate people’s everyday activities and offer easy access to the important cities of Puttalam, Chilaw, and Anamaduwa. People were greatly inconvenienced as certain areas of the road became inundated as a result of the rain. Steps have been taken to construct this route in a highly systematic and formal manner in response to a request made by the people to the President,” he said.
