During last three months: Over 300 Prosecuted for Deforestation – Amaraweera

More than 300 individuals have been prosecuted in the last three months for deforestation, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday (8).
He further said that legal action against 190 individuals was taken in relation to 190 deforestation cases reported in 2020.
The Minister, citing a graph admitted that deforestation has been rising steadily in the country and vouched to bring it down by 2023.
Speaking further he said that he will take all possible action against those who harm the environment. “I have the strength to face consequences. Therefore, I say that this environmental damage will not be allowed to happen after 2022.”
