After the Kurinjakerney ferry tragedy, a group of disgruntled persons damaged the house of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) MP M. Thowfeek. They claimed the Kurinjakerney bridge issue was yet to be resolved.
This tense situation erupted when the death toll of the ferry accident increased. They alleged that MP Thowfeek, who represents the Kinniya people, had not taken any steps to solve this issue. Kinniya Police and the Navy took great pains to bring the situation under control. The MP’s house was severely damaged. The MP was not at home at the time of the attack, a reliable source said. Kinniya Police are guarding the residence of the MP.
