Death of Bathiudeen's maid: Three-member team appointed to conduct 2nd postmortem
A three-member specialist medical team has been appointed to conduct a second postmortem on the body of the 16-year-old girl who had served as a domestic aide at SJB MP Bathiudeen's residence.
The team, comprising of Prof. Jean Perera, (Professor of Forensic Medicine, Medical Faculty, University of Colombo), Dr. Sameera Gunawardena (Senior Lecturer, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department, University of Colombo), and Dr. Prabath Senasinghe (Consultant Judicial Medical Officer, Teaching Hospital Peradeniya), was appointed on the recommendations of the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, and Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam.
The body of the victim is to be exhumed on Friday (30), and will be supervised by the Magistrate of the respective area in Dayagama.
Several other experts in the field will also assist in the exhumation, Police Media Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana stated.
Police are seeking answers to several questions such as the cause of the girl's death, a possible timeline during which she was sexually abused, and whether or not she was subjected to other forms of harassment or cruelty, the SDIG further noted.
The victim had been working as a domestic aide at the private residence MP Bathiudeen and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on 03 July after sustaining serious burn injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on 15 July.
