Death of a minor employed by Bathiudeen : statements of victim’s family recorded
The statements of two six more persons have been recorded in connection with the death of the 16-year-old domestic aide employed by Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) MP Rishad Bathiudeen.
Statements from the victim’s mother, step father, brother and sister were recorded yesterday (21), whilst those of two domestic aides who had served at MP Bathiudeen’s house were also recorded.
The two domestic aides, aged 21 and 32, also residents of Dayagama, had been brought to the MP’s house by the same broker who had brought the victim, Police Media Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana revealed.
The deceased had been working as a domestic aide at the private residence of SJB MP Rishad Bathiudeen and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on 03 July after sustaining serious burn injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries on 15 July.
Following the autopsy conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), it was revealed that she had been sexually exploited over a long period of time, whilst also indicating that she may have died by suicide through self-immolation.
Police have recorded statements from the victim’s mother, an uncle of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, and her brother, whilst further investigations are being conducted by the Borella Police and the Colombo South Division Children and Women’s Bureau.
The prosecution added that the deceased had been brought to serve at MP Bathiudeen’s residence in October last year, at the age of 15 years and 11 months.
