Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Easter Sunday attacks will not be implemented under the incumbent administration as senior security officials and those responsible for law enforcement are attempting to undermine investigations.
Addressing a service held at the St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kochchikade to mark 30 months since the Easter attacks yesterday (21), the Archbishop said even after the lapse of nine months since the PCoI report into the Easter Sunday attacks was handed over to the Attorney General, all volumes of the Report have not been publicised.
He added that while only one volume has been publicised, even the recommendations contained in that volume have not been implemented. He further said while the remaining 21 volumes of the Report were requested for, there has not been any response to date. He also said the former Attorney General, Dappula de Livera had stated that it appears that the Easter Sunday attacks was an organised crime and could not be carried out by a few while stating that the recommendations of the PCoI Report will have to be thoroughly studied and implemented adding that this however has not been done.
