The Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, issuing a condolence message on the brutal murder of Sri Lankan migrant worker Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana by a lynch mob in Pakistan on 3 December, says that while he conveys his deepest commiserations to the victim’s family members he is hoping that the perpetrators behind the heinous act will be dealt with in keeping with the law.

The Cardinal has also most unreservedly and unequivocally condemned the merciless act by a lynch mob in Pakistan which cost Kumara his life and assured that he will be praying for the eternal peace of the victim’s soul. He has stated that the time has come for regional leaders to formulate a joint mechanism to thwart acts committed by extremist groups in the name of different faiths and religions.

Cardinal Ranjith stressed that if the situation is not effectively brought under control, it will continue to pest all countries in the South Asian region and urged the Pakistani political leadership to act on this brutal murder and mete out strongest possible punishment to those guilty of the crime to set a deterrent for the future.
