Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala yesterday ordered ex-Governor of the Western Province Azath Salley, who was remanded after being arrested on charges of inciting racial tensions based on comments he had made during a Media briefing in early March, to be further remanded till 9 November.

The Chief Magistrate also ordered the Director of Prisons to make necessary arrangements for Attorneys to obtain the signature of the suspect while he is detained in his prison cell. The Court gave this order based on a request made by lawyers appearing on behalf of the suspect former Governor.

They urged Chief Magistrate Ragala to issue an order to the Director of Prisons to facilitate them to obtain their client’s signature as the latter is looking to sell a land owned by him. Taking the submission into consideration, the Court gave its order and fixed further hearing of the trial to the said date.
