Anura Kumara slams Basil’s Finance Bill
By Anuradha Herath
JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Ceylon Today if Makandure Madhush had not died, it would have been possible for his black money to be made white through Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s new Finance Bill. The first Bill submitted by Minister Basil Rajapaksa, as the Minister of Finance, is to set up a law “to turn black money into white,” the JVP leader alleged adding that it is a fact that all should realise.
He said such wealth that has been earned through illegal means is possessed by politicians as well as thieving black businessmen, those dealing in drugs and persons maintaining brothels and not by farmers or fishermen or usual Government employees and the general public.
If there had been no Court case against Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa in connection with a house in Malwana, an opportunity would rise through this Bill to even obtain that house, he alleged.
Speaking further the JVP leader added that this Bill on white paper is a black Bill and that it is not a Bill for which a law has to be compiled for the general public and that it is a Bill that has been prepared for close deceitful persons and friends.
He also said that what this indicates is a message that those who are engaged in business legally while paying taxes should avoid tax payments and earn money illegally.
