The Government yesterday (19) postponed two major exams based on health experts’ recommendations in view of the on-going pandemic. The Education Ministry decided to postpone the Grade 5 Scholarship and GCE A/L examinations until 14 and 15 November, respectively.
According to Professor G.L. Peiris, Minister of Education, the GCE A/L Examination, scheduled to take place in October, will now take place from 15 November to 10 December based on advice by experts, to avoid any unfairness on students, given the current health conditions.
He also said that all school principals have been instructed to give special attention, so that lessons are conducted with social distancing according to health guidelines and that Grade 5 Scholarship exam will take place on 14 November.
Due to the inability to conduct practical tests in aesthetic subjects in time, the results of 622,000 students who sat for the GCE O/L examination in 2020 has been delayed.
Therefore, the practical tests for 169,000 students who sat for aesthetic subjects are set to take place from 28 August to 8 September, with results expected soon after. “Pre-training activities for pupils will begin in schools on 26 July and they will be called to school for a month in accordance with the comprehensive health recommendations.
The principals have called the subject’s teachers and made preparations for the training. In this context, the Director General of Health Services has given his formal approval,” he said. He went on to say that, despite the deadline for submitting applications for One Grade admissions for the year 2022 was set for 31 July, the deadline has been extended to 7 August.
